Romantic + Timeless New York City Fall Wedding

Tradition and elegance are always wise choices and this beautiful Bride took these classics and created a masterpiece, saying her vows at the very church her new husband’s grandparents were baptized at. But considering she spends her days working at Jimmy Choo, some chic style wasn’t far away either. See every sparkling second, captured by Mademoiselle Fiona and McKenzie Miller Films, right this way!

From the beautiful Bride… New York City. It’s the city where we fell in love, where we had our first apartment together, and where my now husband (!!) Anthony proposed. We knew it would make for both a memorable and fun wedding weekend for both our families and friends.

Teissia Treynet of Firefly Events put our ideas into reality creating a timeless, romantic, old New York garden-style wedding. It’s thanks to SMP that I stumbled upon her and instantly fell in love with her amazing style. She helped us to create a unique combination of both modern and vintage and ensured the day was flawless.

Fashion plays a big part in my life working as an Account Executive at Jimmy Choo, and I knew for my dress I had to go directly to the source of wedding fashion, Monique Lhuillier. I fell in love at a trunk show with her Adele gown, which was a fitted, trumpet silhouette made from french lace, tulle and intricate pearl beading. It featured a beautiful open back and illusion neckline which made the classic silhouette more modern. I added a flowy, tulle veil with lace appliques to give it a more romantic but traditional feel. My bouquet was soft, filled with an array of garden roses, white sweet pea, ranunculus, lilac, anemones and soft greenery.

Tradition was important to us both as we planned our day, which is why we chose to be married at Saint Anthony’s Church in Soho. The beautiful, historic church is not only the first Italian parish in Manhattan, but is also where Anthony’s grandparents were baptized. The church itself is stunning with its cathedral ceilings, stained glass windows and a pipe organ. Garlands of magnolia leaves were draped the entire length of the aisle to tie back to our idea of lush greenery. The altar was anchored with beautiful arrangements in mercury glass urns. We did not see each other prior to the wedding, which made walking down the long aisle that much more special. Following the nuptials and traditional vows, we gathered all our ceremony guests for a fun, vintage style wedding photo on the steps of the church.

As a Bride, you are likely in control of almost all the details that go into your wedding. Weather, being the exception. When we chose our venue of TriBeCa Rooftop, we fell in love with the breathtaking views of the city and the idea of a rooftop cocktail hour. I relentlessly checked the weather the week leading up to the big day, and to my disappointment our forecast was for rain. While I know this superstitiously means good luck, I knew we would have to go with plan B, an indoor cocktail hour. The morning of October 4th poured, and I was surprisingly calm. Luckily, as my father and I got into our vintage car to head to church, the sky had cleared and was now a beautiful shade of pink. It was truly magical and made for spectacular skyline views on the roof! Words of wisdom NYC brides, have a rain plan!

Rebecca Shepherd Floral Designs transformed the modern TriBeCa space to a warm, romantic and inviting space with soft, beautiful arrangements, lush greenery, unique vessels, and more candles, hurricanes and lanterns than one should ever light. To warm up the space, we hung string cafe lights across the length of the dance floor. For our tablescapes, I fell in love with the idea of having a few different arrangements on the tables to create some dimension in the room and make things more intimate. We kept the color scheme neutral and timeless with touches of white, ivory, blush and green accompanied by silver mercury glass. For our head table where we sat alongside our bridal party, we had a stunning runner made with greenery and pops of white and blush blooms. We chose classic style place settings with art deco flatware, calligraphed escort cards, and tied our menus with lace ribbons and olive branch sprigs.

Music was also important to us and we believe it sets the mood of any party. One of the first vendors hired was the phenomenal Groove Shop Band, who truly kept our guests on the dance floor the entire night with a set list filled with a great mix of our favorite oldies, love songs and modern hits. Our first dance was to “I Belong to You,” by Lenny Kravitz. Later in the evening, to our pleasant surprise, our cousins’ arranged for extra special guests, The Gipsy Kings! Their Spanish infused salsa style turned our dance floor into a frenzy and truly was one of the most memorable moments of the day!

Mademoiselle Fiona and McKenzie Miller Films were there to capture the day and provide us with beautiful, lasting memories of both the planned and unexpected events.

Behind the Scenes with Carolina Herrera

When you get a chance to meet THE Carolina Herrera during New York Bridal Market, you say yes and break out into a happy dance. She’s a true legend in the fashion industry, so when SMP was offered the chance to sit down one-on-one with the designer behind some of our most beloved gowns, we brought our A-game plus Rebecca Yale Photography to give you, dear readers, an exclusive first-hand look.

As I walked into Carolina Herrera’s office on 7th Ave., sophistication and elegance reigned supreme. She welcomed us with open arms into her luxe space filled with natural light pouring through every window and each design piece placed just so. We were invited to preview one of the gowns from the Spring 2016 collection, and needless to say, We. Were. Stunned. The fitted bodice with chantilly lace along the neckline is the type of detail we’ve come to love from Mrs. Herrera, and the delicate buttons draping down the back into a tiered train was nothing short of perfection.

Carolina was meeting with her Creative Director, Hervé Pierre when we walked in, and they were putting the finishing touches on a gorgeous feather and lace gown for the upcoming collection. The office was filled with gorgeous photos, trinkets, and memento’s – each with their own unique story.

It didn’t take long to feel at total ease as Hervé Pierre told us fun stories behind the pictures, like how at 6-years-old Carolina was photographed in a white dress for her role in Snow White. She looked stern in the picture and when we asked why, Hervé explained it was because she wanted to play the Wicked Witch instead. Well played, Mrs. Herrera.

A lampshade with different memories pinned to it was full of stories, including a photo of the fabric found in Marie Antoinette’s Versaille palace. The story goes that Marie would change the drapes in the palace for every season. This particular pattern was there right before the war, and it’s still there today. Oh, and you can still buy the fabric today – how amazing is that?

It was such an honor to spend some time with Mrs. Herrera, and get a peek inside her glamorous world. Her Spring 2016 collection is sure to be one of the books, and we’ll be covering each and every gown once they hit the runway this weekend. Stay tuned! xoxo

Romantic Outdoor Tented Wedding in Memphis

The lady behind the lens, Ashley Upchurch, said everything about this wedding reminded her of a little girl’s fairytale. And quite frankly, I couldn’t agree more. Each and every moment has “storybook” written all over it (helloooo, floral arch!) and with vendors like Angela Mazanti and Bella Figura, it comes as no surprise. Get comfy and find your wedding planning happy place right this way.

From Ashley UpchurchStephen and Kristy were married on a crisp October day at a private estate in Memphis, TN where they exchanged vows underneath a breathtaking floral arch. The bride wore a lovely Rivini gown that paired beautifully with her orchid-draping bouquet made by Angela Mazanti. Guests were provided with individually wrapped fleece blankets to keep warm during the ceremony and were entertained by a bagpiper as they entered the reception. Everything about their wedding reminded me of a little girl’s fairytale wedding!
